The Challenge

Developed for a 48-hour game jam with the theme "Mask", the challenge was to create a compelling game where masks play a central role in gameplay. Our team designed a boss-rush adventure where a mysterious masked magician must travel through twisted realms and defeat a series of eccentric bosses, each guarding a fragment of the ultimate Mask of Power.

Designing unique attack patterns for each boss that feel distinct, challenging, and memorably funny, from rhythm-based disco attacks to spell-mimicry mechanics

Implementing a mask-based ability system where the player unlocks new powers by defeating bosses and claiming their masks

Architecture & Design

Built in Unity with a modular boss battle framework and a mask ability system. Features a state-machine-driven AI for each boss with unique phase transitions, attack pattern randomization, and environmental interaction. The mask system unlocks new spells and passive abilities as players progress.

Improvements & Impact

Venture was created during a 48-hour game jam with the theme "Mask", earning praise for its creative boss designs and tight combat feel. Players loved the humorous twists on each boss, the disco golem and mimic jester were crowd favorites. The mask ability system added meaningful progression to the boss-rush format, giving players new tools to experiment with on subsequent runs. The project demonstrates rapid prototyping skills, creative enemy AI design, and a strong grasp of what makes boss battles feel memorable and fun.
