The JortSoft 72-hour GameJam brought together indie developers to create games from scratch. CursedSoft took 1st place for its innovative horror/strategy mechanics built entirely within the three-day deadline.

The Challenge

Develop a horror/strategy game within 72 hours for the JortSoft GameJam 2023. The game needed to combine time-pressure mechanics with strategic bug-fixing gameplay, wrapped in a compelling horror narrative about a cursed house where starvation is the ultimate threat.

Architecture & Design

Built in Unity with a modular gameplay loop combining resource management (money for food), time pressure mechanics, and procedural bug generation. Features a curse meter that escalates tension as time runs low.

Final Product

A horror/strategy indie game where you must fix reanimated software bugs under a ticking clock to earn money for food. Fail, and the curse of the house triggers your demise. Winner of the JortSoft 72-hour GameJam 2023.

Improvements & Impact

CursedSoft won 1st place at the JortSoft 72-hour GameJam 2023, impressing judges with its innovative blend of horror atmosphere and strategic gameplay. The game was developed from concept to playable demo in just three days, demonstrating rapid prototyping skills and creative game design under extreme time constraints. The full version is currently in development with plans for release in Summer 2023, expanding on the original jam concept with more levels, deeper mechanics, and enhanced horror elements.
